Little Laxers Program
The Masco Youth Lacrosse Little Laxers Program is a co-ed, non-competitive, non-contact introduction to the game of lacrosse, which is primarily a skills-based course designed to see if your child might be interested in pursuing lacrosse. We follow the recommendations of the US Lacrosse Athlete Development Program (LADM). We focus on developing basic movement skills like running, jumping, landing, kicking, scooping, throwing, and catching in a fun setting, built around informal play and positive reinforcement.
DATES & TIMES for 2025
When: Saturdays from 10 - 11 a.m.
Where: Pye Brook Park (lower Harmer field) - Topsfield, MA
We plan to begin our season on Saturday, April 26th; however, this start date is always subject to field availability after the winter. In years past, the town has not allowed us onto the fields until they are "suitably dry.” That could be later than this date. I will remain in close contact with you as the spring approaches. We are scheduled to run 6 sessions from April 26th - June 7th, with no practice on Memorial Day weekend. If the field conditions force us to start later than April 27th, we will look into scheduling make-up sessions when field space is available.
EQUIPMENT
This is a non-contact program and the need for equipment is limited at this level.
· Lacrosse stick (there is a difference between girls and boys sticks). We do have some Warrior Warp Evo Mini Sticks for players to borrow if they do not have their own stick.
· Mouth guard
· Girls will need goggles!
Beginner starter packages are generally available at Dick’s Sporting Goods or there are lacrosse specific retailers like Lacrosse Unlimited, located in Danvers. A basic, entry level stick (@ $30 to $40 new) is all that is required at this level. Goggles come in different sizes and are typically listed as ‘youth’ or ‘girls’ for the smaller models and ‘womens’ for the larger size. Best to check with the retailer on how each brand sizes their product. Used equipment can often be found at Instant Replay in Georgetown.
**We will also be using a “modified” lacrosse ball that is softer than a traditional lacrosse ball in order to minimize potential injuries from any wayward pass, etc.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
We are always looking for parent volunteers to help manage the kids – no lacrosse experience necessary! If you are willing to assist (in any capacity), please contact the Program Director as soon as possible as we can certainly use the help at this level!
